What Is a Storage Bed?

A lot of people these days have started looking into buying storage beds to take advantage of all the space they now have available in their bedroom. But the problem is many people buy them expecting to have a bed that will be able to double up as a comfortable sofa when they need to watch TV or read a book. What is surprising to most is that these beds are not very practical for people with back problems, as the bulky nature of the storage bed can mean that you have to put in a lot more effort in keeping it away from the floor and also on the nightstand.

It’s not all bad news though, storage beds can actually be quite comfortable if you know how to make them that way. The first thing to do is decide on the size of bed you want. You may be interested in twin beds as they tend to be smaller in size which makes them perfect for day to day use, but twin beds aren’t ideal for people who sleep on their back, as the bulky nature of twin beds makes them difficult to get onto your back without making an unplanned stop. If you do find yourself wanting to sleep on your back though, you can always invest in a good mattress for use as a storage bed. Memory foam mattresses work well as storage beds, as they allow you to position yourself in a way that allows you to position the mattress at angles which allow you to keep the weight off your back. It is important to ensure that the mattress you buy is a good quality memory foam mattress, otherwise the comfort you get will not be worth the money spent on the bed.

One of the most common storage beds that people buy these days is the chest of drawers, which is perfect for a kid’s bedroom or for someone with back problems. chests of drawers can come in a variety of styles and sizes to suit your needs, and many retailers now stock a wide range of different types of chest of drawers to fit with your bedroom design and color scheme. The most popular option is usually an opened chest of drawers, although you can also buy a version with closed storage space underneath, which can be particularly useful for larger children.

Twin mattresses offer a good compromise between a chest of drawers and other storage beds. They are designed to be extremely comfortable, offering good support and relief from sore back muscles. Because of their size, twin beds tend to come with better storage capacity than other types of furniture. If you buy a high quality twin bed, you should be able to make it last for many years, although this may be dependent on your preferences. The main benefit of twin beds is that they are so comfortable, even for long periods of time.

Gas lift beds are another common type of storage beds available these days and can really help to maximise the space in your bedroom. Gas lift beds consist of a bed and lift mechanism, which allows you to easily move the bed up and down to be used as storage or bed whenever required. Because of the way gas lift beds work, you may find that your bedroom feels less cramped, which can be an important feature if you have small children or elderly relatives living with you.

Box springs are another potential storage bed option. A box spring is an underbed storage unit which can be fitted into the mattress of any sleeping bag, providing a more secure solution than underbed drawers or even a bed frame. You may find that a box spring is a cheaper option because of the lower cost of materials used to make them, although you may prefer to consider purchasing a mattress cover instead. Some people prefer not to use box springs because they can be uncomfortable, although this is a matter of personal preference. Whatever you decide, the most important thing to remember when looking for storage options for your bedroom is that you get what you need – think about what you need before purchasing anything.
